The World Is Flat... Now It's Free

The people over at ChangeThis sent this free offer over and I thought I would pass it on. ChangeThis is a great site that gives away e-books that are typically excerpts of content soon to be published. As an example I read David Meerman Scott 32-page e-book on The New Rules of PR, 6-months or so before it was published.

Enjoy! ChangeThis http://www.changethis.com/

Greetings Everyone! Beginning tomorrow, and running through August 4th, Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Macmillan Audio will be offering the audio edition of Thomas Friedman's THE WORLD IS FLAT for free. Listeners will receive the audiobook in three easy-to-download sections, and soon after that, as an added bonus, will also receive an exclusive prepublication audio excerpt of Friedman's HOT, FLAT, AND CROWDED: WHY WE NEED A GREEN REVOLUTION AND HOW IT CAN RENEW AMERICA. The book itself will be released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux on September 8th. Jeff Seroy, Senior Vice President of marketing and publicity at FSG, said the purpose of this audio giveaway is to "celebrate Friedman's enormous influence on our lives and times. And in preparation for the release of his new book, a green manifesto and a continuation in many ways of his thinking in THE WORLD IS FLAT, we want to enable anyone who hasn't already read THE WORLD IS FLAT to catch up with Friedman's argument and vision for the future." If you'd like to receive these free audio downloads, sign up at the address below: http://www.thomaslfriedman.com/giveaway

Grammar Girl Uses Podcasting to Grow Information Business

Grammar Girl Uses Podcasting to Grow Information Business

via The Life's Work Group Blog by Matthew Scott on 7/15/08

My Escape From Cubicle Nation friend Pam Slim wrote a great post today on Grammar Girl Mignon Fogarty.

What a great example of using podcasts to enable people to know, like, and trust you.

Mignon did something very creative from a business process standpoint.

1. She created a 5-minute weekly podcast. She now receives 800,000 visitors a week.

2. Mignon created an audio book on audible.com.

3. She wrote a print copy book.

I love this creative approach.

You can view her YouTube video on Matthew's site it might give you some inspiration and ideas for your own business.

The Thank You Note - It's Still Important

The Thank You Note - It's Still Important

You are unique ... your interview experience is unique ... and your response should be unique as well. Take notes during your interview and recap important points in your thank you note. You can also mention objections you hope to overcome or new information that perhaps supports your candidacy. Write as if you were in a conversation with the recipient. Be concise and make sure that every word adds value.

The standard suggestion has been to send a thank you note / letter or email directly after the interview, which is fine. However, many candidates find that they get an EVEN BETTER RESPONSE with a simple store bought plain thank you card with their brief remarks inside. A card that comes in a non-business-style envelope stands out from all of the boring business mail and emails that are received each day and shows a more personal touch than a stuffy letter or email.

How Do You Track It All?

Great quck read on managing it all if you pull 1 idea from the minute it takes you to read it, well you maybe saving a day in your life! There is more than this so click through.

I got an interesting email from Kevin Behringer from the Fly-Over Marketing Blog:

"I was listening to SPOS 110 and your point about a system to manage content and ideas really tied into a question I had for Foreword Thinking.

How do you manage it all?!?

You read a lot of books, blogs, etc. How do you record it all or track it to actually use it? One of the things I'm struggling with right now."

The truth is, I think we're all struggling with this. So, in the spirit of sharing and me wanting to learn more about how others track everything as well, I thought I would answer, but then also tag some people I know (and others who I have never met, but would be interested in learning how they handle, manage and track this vast land of information) and hope that they Blog about this topic on their own spaces and share it with their readers.

For Web-based content (like Blogs, newsfeeds, etc...) I swear by Google Reader. For tracking purposes, I'll either use the "Add star" button for

Overall, I don't record or track anything with the intent of keeping it around forever. I think that specific philosophy makes it all easier. Odds are if I saved, tracked, tagged or recorded something for future use and I have not used it after a couple of weeks, I'm comfortable purging it entirely.
